TOMTC Joins Forces with Black Mountain Volunteers

Nov 30, 2012

The Mountain is owned and managed by the Department of Natural Resources with the Volunteers grooming the thirty miles of cross-country trails. In addition local snowmobile and ORV groups have helped the DNR with maintenance of their separate trail networks within the Mountain's boundaries. Adjacent to the Forest Recreation Area is the Black Mountain rustic campground that has campsites, a boat launch and a beach on Black Lake. Black Mountain is located in both Cheboygan and Presque Isle Counties.

The Volunteers have for eight years hosted the Black Mountain Classic Nordic Ski Race. This year the 31k "classic only" race will be held Saturday March 2, 2013. The 10K "John Hardin / Marv Mendyk" Tour, as in the past, will also be held on Saturday at the same time as the Classic race.

In addition, and for the first time, a 10k skate race will be held at Black Mountain the next day Sunday March 3, 2013. This first time event, named the Black Mountain March to Madness. will give skiers of all levels a real chance to enjoy skiing on the Mountain. These races have will bring participants and spectators to the area from around the country for a full weekend of great skiing and fun.
