The event will celebrate the unique partnership that emerged to make the facility a reality. It brought together the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Presque Isle County, Village of Millersburg and the Millersburg Historic Society to share resources to not only build, but maintain the facility, year round for all trail users to enjoy.
The Millersburg Depot Regional Trailhead has been long in the making, with roots coming from a trail master planning process in 2004 when Millersburg was identified as a trailhead location. Since that time there have been countless meetings, visioning sessions, grants to design the facility and grants to develop the facility. In 2012 the trailhead and local park facility was built. Funding from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, Recreation Improvement Fund and the Recreation Trails Program made it possible.
The Michigan Snowmobile Association, Presque Isle Sno-Trails and the Top of Michigan Trails Council have come together to sponsor this grand opening event. “I believe all our organizations support this project because we realize that this unique partnership is a model to help improve our trails year round and provide modern amenities all while improving the quality of life of local communities,” said Emily Meyerson, Trail Coordinator for the Top of Michigan Trails Council.
