Horses are permitted on trails that are unimproved or improved with crushed limestone.  Trails currently in this category (200 miles) are the Hillman to Alpena Trail, the North Central State Trail (Gaylord to Mackinaw City,) the Petoskey to Mackinaw City Trail and the Rogers City Spur.

Trails where horses are prohibited (51 miles) are the Alpena Bi-Path, the Huron-Sunrise Trail, and the Little Traverse Wheelway.

Horse owners are urged to clean up after their animals.
