PRIORITY TRAILS UPDATE 8/26/09

Little Traverse Wheelway: Most of the last three miles of the Little Traverse Wheelway from Little Traverse Township Park at Pleasantview Road to Hoyt Street Community Park is slated for construction starting in mid September. The section just west of Emmet Heights will not be complete this year due to wetland complications. Travel in this area will remain on the shoulder of M 119.
Petoskey to Alanson: Engineering is underway on this segment of trail primarily along the former railroad corridor. Once the engineering and cost estimates are complete, grants will be sought for construction of an asphalt trail.
Huron-Sunrise Trail: In the Spring of 2009 the trail was extended two miles from P.H. Hoeft State Park to Forty Mile Point Lighthouse Park. Segment completed and dedicated.
Alpena to Cheboygan Trail: The project is currently being engineered and is still slated for construction in 2011 with a crushed packed limestone surface.
Boyne City to Charlevoix Trail: committee submitted two major construction funds application before April 1, the City of Boyne City is acting as the applicant, efforts being made to raise the local match from Boyne City plus townships along the route plus private donations, phase one of the project is from Boyne City to Horton Bay, all asphalt and off-road. Burt Lake Trail: The Burt Lake Trail Committee has defined a potential route for the trail and they have now hired an engineer to complete a preliminary engineering study to help with feasibility and cost estimates.
